I was trolling around Khan Market yesterday evening, munching on a kebab roll, and flipping through The Name is Rajinikanth, when yet another downpour hit. Normally, I would’ve walked in the rain and enjoyed the drenching thoroughly, but when your paycheck’s in your pocket, you want to be a wee bit careful, yes?

So, here I am, many little shopping bags in hand, trying to squeeze under a convenient store awning, when this girl next to me pipes up, “Uncle, you can share our umbrella if you like.” (ella-ella-ay-ay-ay…ARGH….I can’t even look at a brolly now without thinking of friggin’ Rihanna).

‘Our umbrella’ turned out to be a large, red one, with a Vodafone logo on the side, currently being shared by seemingly polite girl and this pimply, scarecrow-type person, who I took to be her beau. I was just about to thank these kids for their offer, them being nice enough to help a senior citizen like me (bleargh), when I noticed that the girl was wearing a skimpy black sundress…with day-glo orange Crocs.

I very politely say, “It’s ok, beta, I’ll manage”, and walk off. Orange Crocs.

Is this supposed to be some sort of new fashion statement? Wearing large, hideously coloured, lumps of cheap rubber. I’m getting too old for this shit.

chill ya crow, you're what 27? Hideous, (and unreasonably expensive) crocs should be water off a rubber ducky's back by now.

you're reading biographies, Rajni's?? wow. When it isn't even about pirates or death metal! halleluiah! :D

mistercrowley said...

Pip: They'd usually be water of a duck's back.....but the combo of black and orange was shocking to say the least :P

And, yes, I'm huge rajini fan, ergo :D It may also surprise you, but pirates/death metal do not constitute the entirty of my existence ;P

Ha, Ha, Ha UNCLE atleast she was nice enough to share her umbrella! What did you do in return?! NOTHING but criticize!
You should really be ashamed of yourself!

I scribble here said...

mmmm...whats wrong with black and orange??.. haha UNCLE :D
but then i find crocs quite ugly

mistercrowley said...

Robin: Actually, I was a little taken aback when this kid offered to share the umbrella...i mean, in all the cities i've lived and/or worked in, nobody's ever shared an umbrella with me :P And why exactly should I be ashamed if I can't stand the sight of crocs?

Scribbler: I have a limited sense of colour combos, ok, so sue me if you like to...bwahahahaha....

siropdevanille said...

Hahahhahahahaa!!!!!!!! Uncle did it! Im sure the crocs didnt bother you so much...! :P

mistercrowley said...

Syrup: No, it was definitely the crocs....the Uncle bit, I'm used to by now....everyone seems to assume I'm married with kids :p Do I look that traumatised?

That color combo sounds quite shocking.

I was pleased to discover that Crocs makes a series of non-ugly rubber shoes, so my kid can splash unrelentingly through puddles without causing such color consternation.

mistercrowley said...

Scylla: Hello, fellow lawyer. Good to see you here :)

They have non-ugly ones? I hope hey start selling 'em here by the time I have kids! (Keeping in mind my present romantic drought, that seems a bit unlikely)

Teeheehee! Crocs are about the ugliest things to strike the earth, but strictly after Paris Hilton.

Speaking of crocs, the boyfriend and I were passing an exclusive store for kids yesterday at a mall, when his eyes popped out. Why? Because there were tiny crocs for children aged 4 - 9. Tiny, ugly, things that were to come in contact with baby feet. And a couple bought three pairs. In different colours. :( A part of me died inside.

It really is the end of the world, isn't it?

mistercrowley said...

Moo: 3 pairs? You don't live in Bombay, do you?

Moo said...

No. I live in Moo-mbai. :P Why, though?

Moo said...

Don't Crocs come in pairs? :-S What have I said wrong, NOW? :(

mistercrowley said...

Something to do with Crocs, that's all ;)

mistercrowley said...

Nothing wrong, luv, nothing wrong...

What are Crocs now?

mistercrowley said...

Per: Crocs = Ugly rubber flip-flops

Chandni said...

You get to eat the Khan market rolls, get caught in the rain AND are offered an umbrella? Whoa! Delhi at its best!

mistercrowley said...

Chandni: Yeah, ain't life grand? Only fuckup was that the umbrella offeree was way below my minimum hittable age standards....and, yeah, she was wearing orange crocs :P else it woulda been purrrfecto ;)

El said...

lmao, how i relate, simply cannot take people who wear crocs seriously.

mistercrowley said...

El: Whoever came up with crocs obviously wasn't taking himself/herself seriously in the first place :P

El said...

hehe, touche

I hate those damned shoes. I have always hated them. I refuse to wear them. You might think that's because I'm old and they would look stupid on me, anyway. No.
I saw a picture of Jack Nicholas wearing them... silver ones with a black suit! *gag*
I won't even buy them for my 6 year old. I don't care how popular they are or how much they cost, rubber shoes will always say "ugly, stinky, plastic-looking shoes".

mistercrowley said...

Angel: Silver Crocs?!?!!?! Yur!

Divya said...

27 is uncle? :S

mistercrowley said...

Divya: It is, if you look 35 :P

ooooh crocs are expensive shoes now, and they are sturdy. I still think they are oh-fuckin-ugly!
