It was an unusual evening at Blues, last Thursday. Rockers up the yingyang, and by that I mean people who actually listen to rock, as opposed to the usual Summer of ’69 poseurs. Someone even requested for Liquid Tension Experiment (which, unfortunately, I didn’t have on me at the time). Towards the end of the evening, with most of the crowd having left, I switched over to slightly mellow music; something along these lines:

- Pink Floyd;
- BB King;
- Neil Young;
- Acoustic Megadeth (yes, they have one live record, which is entirely acoustic);
- Acoustic Korn (ditto – MTV Unplugged); and
- Dylan

Carried on playing this stuff for a half-hour when one gent teetered up to the console and loudly admonished me for not playing ‘light music’.

“And what sort of ‘light music’ would you prefer?” I asked politely.

Spewing cheap whiskey fumes, he snorted out:

… *wait for it*
“Summer of ‘69”

“Is there a doctor in the house? This guy’s got a broken nose.”

Liquid Tension Experiment is the side project of Dream Theater or something like that right?

Fan: Yep. LTE is a DT side project (one of a gazillion...they come up with new side project every other month)....it's all instrumental.

didn't make it finally! As it often happens with me, friends decide they'd rather come to MY house, drink up all MY alohol and on top of that, insist on MY cooking too.

Such is life....

Mister Crowley said...

Moonshine: C'est la vie :) The place wasn't too crowded last night, so I was wondering which one was you :)

You should train me as your paduwan... together, we can overcome the Dark Songs...

Megadeth had an acoustic album? No way!!!
whats it called? where can i find?

Mister Crowley said...

Per: any ol' time dude....figuring out the nuts n bolts of a dj console takes about an hour or so....after that it's open season on crap music, muahahahahah

Penfold: It's called 'live in buenos areis' or 'live in argentina', I forget which one exactly. But I can give you a copy, or you can get it off a torrent search engine. It has a brilliantly funny version of 'My Sweet Lord' which I play all the time :)

Miss P said...

Unfortunately, im on a 'no downloading music' trip, and i doubt if i'll find this album anywhere in this city - not even saket musicland. tsk tsk.

aahhh you play at Blues (wah) and manage to complete a book (wah wah). The last time I was at Blues, a live band played sunner of '69 TWICE> If I had to hear it wouldn't I be in some Mc. D's or in the '90s?

Mister Crowley said...

Penfold: So you DO want me to give you a copy? ;) No, you won't find it here in Delhi. In fact, I'd be surprised if you could find it anywhere in India. Came across it by chance myself.

Chandni: Um. Well. The book is far from 'complete', but we do our best, yes :)

Chandni said...

Aha modesty! Its the one emotion that makes me instantly think of immodesty (spelling?). Some irony. Anyway welcome to my blogroll :)

Rassles said...

FREEBIRD

Mister Crowley said...

Chandni: Danke ;)

Rassles: Lynyrd Skynyrd? Oh yeah...play that one all the time...the long solo at the end is simply genius....

aaah1 u won't have to wonder darling, I'll come and say hello :)

and that brings us to a thought...why don't a bunch of us actually plan for an evening at Blues?? Once the vanilla baby is feeling better eh??

Think it'll be fun!

U can play summer of 69 and entertain us :P

Mister Crowley said...

Moonshine: haan haan, kyun nahin?

I can't believe you ignored the "summer of 69" part!

U must be in a good mood :D

Mister Crowley said...

No. I'm still half asleep...been up all night at work.

And no..I didn't miss the Summer of '69 bit. If I ignore it long enough, maybe it'll go away :P

*cough, as someone new to the Delhi rock scene (just moved back from Bombay), where is it that you play?

Mister Crowley said...

Ink: Blues, CP.

Korn has an acoustic album ?

I had pretty much given up on a lot of places in Delhi because of the kind of "music" (if you can call it that) they play.

And as for that errr..song.... I just hope that guy left with more than a broken nose. :P ...

El said...

hang on..you dj at blues?!...

COOL.

Mister Crowley said...

Overrated: Yup. It's called MTV Unplugged. Quite easily available too.

El: Uh huh. Now and then :)

Summer of fucking 69?! Damn! Don't people know other songs that came before and after THAT blasted song? :(

Mister Crowley said...

Cow: Apparently NOT

Rassles said...

Well yeah, as far as songs go...any time you can get three guitars in sync shit works out...but dude, it seems to me that once you turn down requests of Summer of 69 the inevitable next request is, of course, Freebird.

Mister Crowley said...

Rassles: Surprisingly, no. Hardly anyone requests for Skynyrd here. It's quite sad, really. The majority of the population out here thinks of maybe 10 songs when you say 'Rock'.

Rassles said...

Okay, that just sucks. You should go on a one-man mission to fix that.

I guess it makes sense though. I don't know if Sweet Home Alabama would go over that well over there...

Mister Crowley said...

Rassles: the mission's been on for a while, unfortunately, it's Christians: 1, Lions: 2 for now, but we persevere, nonetheless ;)

oddly enough, Sweet Home Alabama is probably the only Skynyrd song folks seem to know here...and a lot of them don't even know it's Skynyrd, ha. We live in sad times.
